UCO TESOL 2014년 봄, 가을학기 석사과정 입학인터뷰:

UCO TESOL 석사과정 설명회에 이어 UCO TESOL석사과정 입학에 관심이 있으신 분들을 대상으로 UCO 입학인터뷰가 있을 예정입니다. 학부 영문성적증명서(TESOL 수료자는 TESOL 성적증명서도 함께 지참)과 TOEFL또는 IELTS성적(해당자에 한함)을 지참하시고 인터뷰에 참가해 주시면 UCO 입학 및 TESOL 학점인정에 관한 확인을 해드립니다. 성대TESOL 수료자는 UCO TESL M.A. 과정에서는 9학점을 인정받아 총 학점 32학점 중 23학점만 이수하고 1년 안에 TESL M.A. 석사학위를 취득할 수 있습니다. UCO TESL M.Ed. 과정은 12학점의 교육학(6학점)과 영어관련 (6학점) 과목의 학부 선수과목의 이수를 필요로 합니다. 성대 TESOL 수료자는 12학점의 학부 선수과목을 면제받을 수 있어 총 학점 34학점을 1년 반에 TESL M.Ed.  석사학위를 취득할 수 있습니다. (현재 성대 TESOL 재학중인 분들도 2014년 봄학기나 가을학기 지원이 가능합니다.)

특강 제목: Using the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol for English  Language Learners

특강내용:

The SIOP model has been shown to be an effective tool for teachers to implement with their English language learners. Eight components of the plan will be presented to help teachers prepare and execute a good lesson.

1. OCU TESOL 석사과정 입학 설명회 – OCU는 108년 전통을 가진 미국 중부 명문 대학으로 Oklahoma 주에서 가장 오래된 TESOL 석사과정을 갖고 있습니다. TESOL 석사과정 안내, 입학조건, 학비, 생활비, 장학제도, 자녀 동반 시 교육 등 유학생활 전반에 걸친 설명회가 있습니다. 

2. OCU TESOL 입학 인터뷰 – 성대TESOL 수료자는 12학점을 인정받을 수 있습니다. 따라서 성대 TESOL 수료자는OCU TESOL 석사과정 총 학점 36학점 중 24학점만 이수하고 1년 안에 OCU TESOL 석사학위를 취득할 수 있는 혜택이 있습니다.

학부 영문성적증명서(성대TESOL 수료자는 TESOL 성적도 함께 지참)와 TOEFL 또는 IELTS 성적증명서(해당자에 한함)를 갖고 인터뷰에 참석하시면 인터뷰를 통해 입학여부 및 장학금 지급 등을 확인해 드립니다. (현재 성대TESOL 재학중인 분들도 2013년 1월 봄학기 지원 가능)

[OCU TESOL 장학금 안내]

1. 24학점 Flat Rate Scholarship – 성대 TESOL 수료자가 OCU TESOL에 입학할 경우 24학점 학비를 첫 학기에 일시로 납부하면 석사과정을 수료하는 총 학비가 $15,000로 확정되므로 약 $9,000의 장학혜택이 있습니다. (GPA 성적이 3.0/4.0 이상이고 TOEFL IBT 80점 또는 IELTS 6.0 이상 자)

2. 성대TESOL 반액 학비 장학금 – 성대TESOL의 추천을 받은 연간 1명의 OCU TESOL 합격자에게는 반액 학비 장학혜택이 있으며, 첫 학기 일시불 학비 납부 시 총 학비가 $10,000로 확정되므로 약 $14,000의 장학혜택이 있습니다. (성대 TESOL 수료 또는 재학 중인 자로 성대 TESOL 추천 1명, 2013년 봄, 가을학기 지원자 중 선발)    

3. 영어성적 우수 장학금 – 성적이 3.0/4.0 이상으로 IBT TOEFL 83 또는 IELTS 6.5 이상 입학자에게는 연간 $3,000에서 $5,000까지 차등 지급됩니다. 

*위 장학혜택은 중복하여 제공되지는 않으며, 기타 조교 및 근로 장학혜택 등은 중복 지급될 수 있습니다.

기획 배경

지식의 보고로서 책의 중요성은 항상 강조되어 왔다. 하지만 ‘몸에 좋은 약은 입에 쓰다’라는 말처럼 독서는 지식 함양을 위해 해야하는 유익할 활동이긴 하지만 규칙적 운동과 건강한 음식 섭취와 같이 실천으로 옮기기에는 쉽지 않은 일로 여겨지곤 한다. 많은 어린이들과 성인들이 TV 시청, 인터넷, 게임의 유혹 앞에 무너지고, 꼭 읽어야 하는 상황에 봉착할 때만 책을 들게 되는 경우가 많다.

대단한 결단력 및 추진력의 소유자가 아니라면 유익을 위해 재미 없는 활동을 지속해 나가기란 어렵다. 대부분의 사람들이 작심삼일에 크게 공감한다는 상황을 고려한다면 유익함만으로 재미 없는 책 읽기를 지속하기란 불가능에 가깝다고 해도 과장은 아닐 듯 하다.

과연 독서는 새로운 지식을 제공하는 역할만하는 것일까? 시간만 나면 책을 드는 소위 책벌레들은 모든 즐거움을 뿌리치고 지식 연마라는 하나의 목적을 이루기 위해 앞으로 정진하는 진정한 수도자라는 의미일까?

책 읽기의 문턱이 드라마나, 예능 프로그램, 게임보다 높기는 하지만 분명 책은 다양한 재미와 즐거움을 준다. 더욱이, 그 문턱을 넘는 순간 책 읽기를 통해 누릴 수 있는 즐거움은 배가 될 것이다.

The Second World Congress in Extensive Reading

한국외국어교육학회가 2013년 정기학술대회를 연세대(서울)에서 9월 13-15일에 개최합니다. (13일: 주요연사들과 함께 하는 워크샵 / 14-15일: 학술대회)

이번 학술대회는 “세계다독학회”의 제2회 세계대회를 외국어교육학회와 세계다독학회가 공동으로 개최합니다. 다독과 어휘분야의 세계적인 학자인 Paul Nation을 비롯한 국내.외의 저명한 학자들과 함께 하는 2013년 한국외국어교육학회의 학술대회에 많은 참여 부탁드립니다.  (발표 신청: 3월 31일까지 erkorea2013@hotmail.com으로 신청)

The Korea Association of Foreign Languages Education(KAFLE) is hosting The Extensive Reading Foundation’s Second World Congress in Extensive Reading to be held at Yonsei University, Seoul on September 13-15, 2013(Workshop: Sep. 13; Conference: Sep. 14-15).

The conference theme is “Extensive Reading: Lighting new ways to language learning”.

The young human brain copes remarkably well with two or more languages, with early bilingualism often resulting in perfect parallel proficiency. In contrast, automatic translation and language recognition systems remain suboptimal, despite powerful computing resources, large-scale corpora and increasingly sophisticated training algorithms.

The summer school is a unique opportunity for postgraduate students and early-career researchers in psychology and computer science to engage over common issues informed by both disciplines. How can we model bilingual processing? How are two phonologies represented? How is meaning related to word forms? How far can meanings be shared between languages in the human mind and in machines?

The school will feature interactive lectures from world-leading researchers: psychologists investigating early and late bilingualism; cognitive scientists modelling the bilingual mental lexicon, from phonology to semantics; computer scientists and roboticists designing automated translators and language recognition/learning systems. Participants will also gain hands-on experience in computational modelling, cutting-edge robotic technology and advanced techniques of experimental psychology. They will also have the opportunity to submit an abstract for poster session that will take place during the week, with two selected for a 20-minute conference-style presentation.

Application and registration

We are seeking applications from postgraduate students and early-career researchers (i.e., not more than three years post-PhD). Registration fees for the week are £400, which includes accommodation, breakfasts, lunches, refreshments and a full social programme. Places are limited to 30 and fees will be waived for up to five participants. To register your interest, please submit the following documents in PDF format, and indicate whether you wish to be considered for a fee waiver.

- Curriculum vitae (up to two pages), indicating level of English language attainment.
- Description of research interests and potential benefits of participation (one page).

If you wish to be considered for a fee waiver, then please additionally make a case for support with reference to your current funding (not more than one page). Your request for a fee waiver will not affect the outcome of your application to participate in the school.
